Understanding the Problem

Knee pain is one of the most common problems I treat. It can come on suddenly — a twist playing sport, a fall, or a misstep off a kerb — or build gradually through running, work, or the wear-and-tear changes of osteoarthritis. Common diagnoses include ligament sprains (ACL, MCL), meniscal (cartilage) injuries, patellofemoral pain ('runner's knee'), tendinopathy, and arthritis-related pain.

I treat patients at home across Coggeshall, Colchester, Braintree, Witham, Halstead, Kelvedon, Tiptree and Earls Colne — with travel included in the session fee. See full pricing here.

What Treatment Looks Like

Accurate assessment first

A thorough physical assessment tells us which structures are involved, what's driving the pain, and — just as importantly — what isn't injured. I'll explain my findings in plain language so you understand exactly what's going on.

Progressive strengthening

The evidence is clear that targeted, progressive strengthening is the foundation of knee rehab — for injuries and arthritis alike. I design programmes around your home set-up, so there's no gym required.

Return to what you love

Whether that's running (I hold postgraduate training in return-to-running rehabilitation), sport, gardening or walking the dog, your plan is built around a clear goal and measured milestones.

Common Questions

Usually not. Most knee problems can be accurately assessed and effectively treated without imaging. If your assessment suggests a scan or specialist opinion is needed, I'll tell you and can write to your GP.
Yes — exercise therapy is the first-line treatment recommended by NICE for knee osteoarthritis. I previously delivered NHS hip and knee OA exercise classes and build personalised versions of these programmes at home.
Simple problems may settle in 2–3 sessions; ligament injuries and post-surgical rehab typically run over several months with progressively spaced sessions. You'll get an honest timeline after your first assessment.
